Paramedical Tattooing Aftercare: How to Take Care of Your Scar Camouflage, Areola Reconstruction, and Scalp Micropigmentation
Paramedical tattooing is a transformative service that restores confidence and helps people feel comfortable in their own skin. Whether you’ve chosen scar camouflage, stretch mark camouflage, areola reconstruction, or scalp micropigmentation (SMP), your healing process is just as important as the procedure itself.
At Salvation Beauty Ink in Pembroke Pines, FL (Broward County, South Florida), we specialize in paramedical tattooing for clients across Pembroke Pines, Miami, and the entire South Florida area. To ensure the best results, here is a complete guide on how to take care of your paramedical tattoo during the healing process.
General Paramedical Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
1. Keep the protective film on
After your session, your artist will cover the treated area with a sterile protective film or plastic.
Keep it on for as long as it feels comfortable, but no more than 3 days.
You may see some fluid buildup under the wrap; this is completely normal.
2. Keep the area clean and dry
Once you remove the protective wrap:
Gently wash the area once a day with lukewarm water and mild antibacterial soap.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Never rub the area.
3. Avoid movement and friction
Try not to bend, stretch, or wrinkle the tattooed area excessively, especially during the first week. For scalp micropigmentation, avoid tight hats and anything that rubs against the head.
4. Avoid hot showers, steam, and soaking
For at least 3 weeks:
Avoid hot showers, baths, saunas, steam rooms, and excessive sweating.
Heat and moisture can soften the scabs and slow healing.
5. No swimming or sun exposure
Do not swim in pools, go to the beach, or expose the treated area to direct sunlight for 3 weeks. Sun and bacteria can interfere with pigment retention.
6. Use a healing ointment (after 4 days)
Starting on day 4, apply a thin layer of the recommended healing balm or tattoo ointment once every other day.
Always apply gently—do not rub.
7. No scratching or picking
As your paramedical tattoo heals, you may notice scabbing and flaking. This is normal.
Do not scratch, peel, or pick at the skin.
Allow the flakes to fall off naturally to avoid pigment loss.
8. Monitor for any reaction
If you notice unusual swelling, redness, or discharge, contact your artist or a healthcare professional immediately. You can also reach our studio for guidance.
What to Expect During Healing
Day 1–3:
Mild swelling and redness in the treated area are normal.
Clear fluid or plasma buildup under the film is common.
First Week:
Itching as the skin begins to heal (do not scratch!).
Scabbing or flaking may appear—let it come off on its own.
Weeks 2–3:
The area may feel dry and start to peel, much like a mild sunburn.
For areola reconstruction tattoos, expect the color to look darker initially. It will soften as it heals.
For scalp micropigmentation, the dots may appear sharper at first and then settle naturally as the skin recovers.
Why Paramedical Tattoo Aftercare is Essential
Proper aftercare is critical for paramedical tattoos because these treatments are performed on sensitive, healed or scarred skin. Following your aftercare instructions will:
Prevent infection
Promote smooth, even healing
Ensure optimal pigment retention and natural-looking results
Avoid patchiness, fading, or the need for additional corrections
